In paying tribute to Gray, Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Atlanta, Dr Elaine Grant-Bryan, remembered him as a valued member of the Georgia community and the wider Jamaican diaspora. “I witnessed firsthand his many acts of kindness and service over the years. He was a regular and active participant in leadership meetings hosted by the Jamaican Consulate in Atlanta.” She reflected that the former Atlanta-Jamaican Association (AJA) president moved through life with a true “service-above-self” spirit, ensuring that the motto Out of Many, One People was reflected in every meeting and cultural celebration. “As the honorary consul for Jamaica in Atlanta, I witnessed Tony consistently representing Jamaica with pride and integrity in every space,” Dr GrantBryan stated. “He leaves us a blueprint for leadership: lead with kindness, listen with intent, and never forget where you came from.” She said that while his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of service and generosity will continue to inspire the Caribbean community in Georgia and beyond. President of the Atlanta Jamaican Association Evette Taylor-Reynolds said of Gray that “his life of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment strengthened our organization and touched the lives of countless individuals across the Jamaican diaspora in Atlanta.” Since joining the AJA in 2008, Mr. Gray carried with him a spirit defined by excellence, humility, and purpose. These qualities shaped not only his contributions to the association but also the legacy he leaves behind — one rooted in integrity, compassion, and a deep love for his community. As a respected professional at IBM, Tony brought the same professionalism, integrity, and spirit of empowerment to his work within AJA. He served not only as a dedicated member but also as a mentor and steady voice of wisdom, helping guide the organization while promoting unity and preserving Jamaican culture. “Today, the AJA expresses profound gratitude for Tony’s years of dedication, leadership, and friendship. His work strengthened our foundation, enriched our cultural life, and inspired future generations to serve with the same passion and purpose,”Taylor-Reynolds stated. Close friend and former AJA President Errol Richie, in his remembrance, hailed Gray as a man who lived to serve others and whom many in Atlanta, Jamaica, and beyond considered a selfless contributor to Caribbean organizations and individuals in the diaspora. He noted that “Tony’s generosity knew no bounds, and his willingness to lead by example attracted admiration and support from many, including members of the AJA, which he served in leadership roles for many years. The Caribbean community has lost a great servant who will remain in our thoughts for years to come. Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Gray spent his formative years in Port Antonio and attended Titchfield High School. He emigrated to the United States in the 1970s and began his career with Texas instrument and later joined IBM in Dallas before later transferring to Atlanta, Georgia, where he remained until his retirement after 37 years with the company. During his tenure at IBM, he served in several capacities and earned several of the company’s most prestigious awards. On Friday, March 20, 2026, the Atlanta community will host a Celebration of Life honoring Mr. Gray – at Dellia Jerk Palace in Lithonia, Georgia, at 8p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 11a.m. at Victorious Life Church in Conyers, Georgia. William Anthony“Tony”Gray is survived by his wife, Doreen; daughter, Tiffany; grandson, Enzo; and a wide circle of relatives and friends. ‘The C’bean community has lost a great servant’ William Anthony “Tony” Gray. CONTRIBUTED Tributes for former Atlanta-Jamaican Association President Tony Gray LONDON (AP): DELROY LINDO is feeling the love and planning for the future. The actor says that his Oscar nomination for Sinners has shown him how many people are thrilled for him. “That’s been truly monumental,” says the supporting actor nominee. “And I can’t help but be impacted by that because it’s a lot of positive, really positive energy and it comes from all over and it is very, very, very genuine. It feels wonderful.” And this appreciation hasn’t just come in the happy times. After a person with Tourette syndrome shouted a racial slur as Lindo and Michael B. Jordan presented during the British Academy Film Awards ceremony, more support came his way, including a standing ovation while presenting an award at the NAACP Image Awards six days later. “It is a honour to be here amongst our people this evening, amongst so many people who have shown us such incredible support,” Lindo said onstage Saturday at the event. “And it’s a classic case of something that could be very negative becoming very positive.” Lindo took home the supporting actor trophy that night, ahead of the Academy Awards on March 15. He’s in the running for an Oscar for his Sinners performance as bluesman Delta Slim, in a category also populated by Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro in One Battle After Another, plus Stellan Skarsgård for Sentimental Value. While the UK has been keen to claim him as a British Oscar nominee, the London-born actor sees his years growing up in America as the making of him. “The reality is my career has been in the United States and the irony is, had I not had my career in the US, you and I would not be talking right now,” he says during an interview with The Associated Press in London, before the BAFTAs. His film CV boasts Malcolm X, Get Shorty, Clockers, The Cider House Rules and Da Five Bloods. On TV, he’s been an FBI agent on Kidnapped, a sheriff on Blood & Oil, a lawyer on The Good Fight and an estranged father on UnPrisoned. His theatre work is equally impressive, with a Tony nomination for portraying Herald Loomis in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone on Broadway. And despite the awards season circuit dominating his time at the moment, Lindo shared his wish list of future projects with the AP. SPIRITUAL ROOTS Lindo is set to wear three hats – of director, co-producer and actor – for a film set in Jamaica, where his mother was born. He says he plans to show a different side of the Caribbean island. “They think about sea, sand, and sun, and that’s wonderful. But I am interested – in this particular story – in showing, sharing with audiences the spirituality that’s in the land and in the people,” explains Lindo. “I’d like to play Othello on film, I really would,” says Lindo.
