20 AS JAMAICANS across the United States gear up to mark Jamaica’s 63rd anniversary of Independence a number of events will be held to mark the occasion. The activities include flag-raising ceremonies, church services as well as independence galas where funds will be raised to support scholarships and charitable organizations dedicated to the building of Jamaica. In New York, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at Bowling Green, Manhattan, on August 4. This will be followed by the annual church service which this year will be held on August 10 at the Community Baptist Church of Englewood in Englewood, New Jersey. The Jamaica Independence Gala will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square on Saturday, August 23. Team Jamaica Bickle Philadelphia will host an Independence celebratory event on Saturday, August 2 at the Hilton Hotel, City Avenue. Gala honorees include: Keishia Thorpe, Med, Global Teacher prize winner, and Andrea A. Lawful-Sanders, A Lawful Truth Enterprises volunteer. On August 8, 2025 starting at 2 pm there will be a flag raising ceremony and reception. On Sunday, August 10, starting at 4 p.m., a service will be held at Grace Community Church of God of Prophecy located at 4982 Master Street in Philadelphia. The Atlanta Jamaica Association will host its annual Jamaica Independence and Scholarship Gala on August 9 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel.
