9 ATLANTA, GEORGIA: THE DR. Elaine Bryan Foundation presented its fourth annual ‘Jamaican Pioneers in Georgia 2024’ celebration on Saturday, March 23. The event which honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the Jamaican community in Georgia is the brainchild of real estate broker Dr. Elaine Bryan, who also serves as Jamaica’s honorary consul in Atlanta. “We all know that these pioneers have made significant contributions in our community, and so, I was compelled to do something during the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, to uplift the spirits of the community and especially those Jamaicans who contributed so much to our heritage, and it is vital that we showcase them and their accomplishments,” Dr. Bryan shared of the celebration’s genesis. The 2024 honorees, attorneys Allan Alberga and Anthony Lee Hing, have remarkable stories of dedication and service. Allan Earl Alberga’s journey began after graduating from St. George’s College. He studied law in the United Kingdom and worked in various legal roles before settling in Atlanta, Georgia, where he has been a pillar of support for the Jamaican community. Anthony Lee Hing started his career in Jamaica, before moving to Georgia, where he continued to practise law. His contribution to the Jamaican community in Georgia has been significant, and even in retirement, he remains committed to serving others. The event featured several distinguished guests, including keynote speaker, Alando Terrelonge, minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson; Leighton Smith, CEO of The Victoria Mutual Overseas Offices; Georgia Senator Tonya Anderson; Dr. Fred Kennedy, chair of GraceKennedy Foundation and Registrar General Charlton McFarlane. The event presented virtually on the Zoom platform was moderated by Dr. Elaine Grant-Bryan. Corporate and community partners for the event included Victoria Mutual Group, Jamaica National Group, Elaine Bryan Realty, Layne Law Group, Elaine Bryan Foundation, Grace Foods, Westside Gastro, Couples Resorts, and Jamaicans & Partners of Georgia. ‘Trailblazing’ lawyers honoured in Georgia Anthony Lee-Hing Alberga CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS THE MONTHLY GLEANER | APRIL 11 - MAY 11, 2024 | www.jamaica-gleaner.com | NEWS TAPPAN, NY: EVEN AS Caribbean Food Delights undergoes a major expansion this year, Caribbean athletes can expect no interruption with meals over the three-day relay carnival event as CFD joins with Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) to celebrate 30 years of remarkable partnership at the annual Penn Relays. “Local restaurants from Philadelphia were sourced and hired to prepare breakfast and dinner from Thursday to Saturday, which Caribbean Food Delights and sister company, Royal Caribbean Bakery will defray catering costs while lunch will be served from our array of Jamaican-style patties, baked goods, and buns sandwiched with cheese from GraceKennedy,” said CEO, Sabrina HoSang Jordan. She said the decision was made during a meeting with TJB chairman, Irwine Clare, who then identified and recommended local restaurants from his list of loyal longstanding supporters. Partnering with the restaurants is welcoming, she asserts, as it would be a tedious task for her factory facility to prepare the meals onsite during the expansion. “The annual lunch and dinner meal routine is where Caribbean Food Delights would purchase the grocery items including meats, hire a chef and cooks who, along with select employees, would prep and cook the different dishes. The meals would then be packaged and driven in our freezer trucks to Philadelphia,”said HoSang Jordan. The executive was quick to add that, “Although meals will be prepared differently this year, the same robust authentic Jamaican dishes will be on the menu. Approximately 6,000 delicious and nutritious meals are expected to be served to athletes, coaches, and other members of the Caribbean athletic contingent.” The CEO said if all goes according to plan, this new model could be adopted moving forward as there have been talks to revolutionise the meal-preparation process. She said, Caribbean Food Delights and Royal Caribbean Bakery are proud of their 30-year legacy with Team Jamaica Bickle and again stand ready to fuel the performance of the Caribbean’s best youth athletes.
