The citation was presented to Samuels at the end of another performance by the stand-up comic in Atlanta, GA, earlier last month In alignment with this noble mission, JMCC presented Oliver Samuels, with a plaque in recognition of his unwavering dedication to the performing arts, with a particular focus on stand-up and comic theatre. Dr Reid acknowledged the profound joy and laughter that Oliver Samuels has unfailingly brought to the hearts of countless individuals within Jamaica and the global Jamaican Diaspora. She emphasised the exceptional talent required to depict authentic Jamaican lifestyle and behaviour with such comedic precision. The honour was presented to Samuels by Vice President Christine Marzouca, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for his annual visit to Atlanta, spanning an impressive ten consecutive years. Marzouca extended warm congratulations to Mr. Samuels on his inaugural solo production and authorship of the hilarious play titled “Teet and Tung.” She emphasised that these remarkable productions were made possible through the support of Mikey Sparkle Productions. CONTRIBUTED Rohan Jones and Aubrey Campbell/Contributors NEW JERSEY Cricket Club (NJCC) capped off a fine season in the Garden State Cricket League (GSCL), as they beat newcomers NJ Rising Stars in the T20 finals played on October 22, at Watsessing Park in Bloomfield, NJ. On a very cool and overcast day, Rising Stars’ captain Kevin Nagepen won the toss and invited NJCC to take first strike on a damp wicket. They were in early trouble as they slumped to 24 runs for the loss of four wickets, after just eight overs and then to 53 for 6, from 14 overs. A rearguard action from Guyana National youth player Demetric Cameron, who smashed 44 not out, from 20 balls, saw NJCC recovered to 132 for 8, off the allotted 20 overs. Kevin Behari with 14, also got among the runs. Medium pacer Anthony Jaggernauth was the pick of the ‘Rising Stars’ bowlers with 4 for 11, off 4 overs. In their turn at bat, Rising Stars’ openers Jonathan Douglin and James Budhu got off to a flying start as they raced to 39 runs after four overs. Captain Anthony Budhu – NJCC - broke the partnership as he dismissed Douglin for 24. Number three batsman Marvin Darlington who plays Minor League Cricket (MLC) for the Miami Franchise, continued the onslaught, racing to 25 off just 11 balls before he was dismissed by Brandon Manual. Rising Stars’ were sitting well at 93/3 from 12 overs, but a late order collapse saw them slumped to 117/9 off the allotted 20 overs, as NJCC gained victory by 15 runs. Bowling for NJCC, Manual finished with 4 for 19 from four overs, Jignesh Parikh 2 for 13, and Captain Anthony Budhu 2 for 14. This was NJCC second title as they also won the 40 Overs title earlier and they finished the season, unbeaten. IRWINE CLARE Sr and Caribbean Food Delights/Royal Caribbean Bakery, will be presented with the Community Service and Distinguished Service tokens, respectively, for their combined seven and a half decades of community empowerment through entrepreneurship, community activism and sports, dating back to 1978. Founded in 1978, by the migrant pair of Jeanette and Vincent HoSang, in what was then a predominantly Caribbean enclave in the North Bronx, NY, Royal Caribbean Bakery has championed the challenge of minority owned businesses to become a global provider of quality Jamaican and Caribbean baked products and delicacies, later, creating a perfect marriage with Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB), in 1994, to provide a more comfortable space during competition for Jamaican athletes at the annual Penn Relays Carnival, Philadelphia. The awards ceremony and dinner, one of three scheduled stops, will highlight the annual reunion weekend, which serves as the chapter’s marquee fundraiser with proceeds earmarked for the mentoring and tutoring initiative, part of an alumni-wide collaboration, launched at the start of the school year, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Returning for their encore performance is the True Tribute Band, led by its founder and award-winning saxophonist, LeRoy Graham.
